"Using the whole atom" to solve problems in chemistry

Welcome to the homepage of the Gilhula Group at JMU! Our team of undergraduate researchers operates at the interface of synthetic and nuclear chemistry. Using JMU's in-house radiochemistry suite and extensive instrumentation, we are creating new molecular compounds that address outstanding challenges in nuclear medicine, sustainable catalysis, and beyond. Students in our group receive rigorous training in synthesis, characterization, and handling of novel molecules that include radioactive isotopes. By targeting specific electronic and nuclear structures, we aim to "use the whole atom" to solve problems in chemistry.
